product image

Offered here is an original vintage Field and Depot Maintenance Manual for the Radio Receiver R-390A/URR, one of the most respected military HF communications receivers used by the U.S. Army and Air Force during the Cold War era.

This manual was published under the authority of the Secretaries of the Army and the Air Force and was intended for field and depot-level technicians responsible for servicing and maintaining the R-390A receiver. The R-390A became legendary among military operators and later amateur radio enthusiasts for its exceptional sensitivity, durability, and precision mechanical tuning system.

This example is housed in a binder-style format and includes the original title page and change notice pages.

Important Contents Clarification

The binder currently contains documentation specifically related to the R-390A/URR radio receiver.

There are handwritten notes from the original owner referencing other equipment (possibly including the AN/UPM-137 test set), which suggests additional documents may have been stored in this binder at one time. However, those materials are no longer present.

What remains in the binder is documentation focused on the R-390A/URR receiver only.

Condition

  • Vintage original military technical manual pages

  • Binder format with metal fasteners

  • Handwritten name and address from original owner on title page

  • Typical age-related wear from storage and handling

  • Please review photos carefully for exact condition and contents

Historical Note

The R-390A/URR was one of the most advanced communications receivers used by the U.S. military during the 1950s–1970s. Known for its mechanical digital tuning system and extremely stable performance, it remains highly collectible among military radio historians and amateur radio operators.

Packaging

This manual will be carefully packaged to ensure it arrives safely.

Please note that on any listings involving antiques/collectibles that we do the bare minimum on cleaning and only use a paper towel and water. The reason for this is so that the item does not get damaged, stained, looses paint/color, etc. There are items listed that do need cleaned a bit more, but we prefer to leave that to the buyer. Thank you for understanding and Good Luck!
