The 1971 Hardie-Ferodo 500 at Mount Panorama was won in dominant fashion by Allan Moffat driving the Ford XY Falcon GT‑HO Phase III for Ford Works Team. Starting from pole, Moffat controlled the race and completed a remarkable solo drive of the entire 500 miles, leading every lap and winning by over a lap. The victory cemented both Moffat and the legendary Phase III Falcon as icons of Australian touring car history and one of the most dominant performances ever seen at Bathurst.

Moffat is a four time Championship and four time Bathurst winner, along with being in the V8 Supercar Hall of Fame.
