[About the actual car]
- The 935 Turbo was developed by for the World Manufacturers Championship, which was contested under the Group 5 regulations that came into effect in 1976.
- The car was based on the 911 Turbo, a popular commercially available turbocharged car, and while it retained its body shape, it was fitted with wider fenders and a larger rear wing.
- The engine was a 2856cc flat-six air-cooled engine equipped with one turbocharger.
- After making its debut in 1976 and winning the championship, it continued to be developed and demonstrated performance that overwhelmed its rivals.
- From 1977, Toyota also began supplying cars to private teams in addition to the works teams. These cars were successful not only in Europe, but also in the American IMSA series.
- In the 1979 Le Mans 24 Hours, one of the privateer teams, Kremer Racing, won the overall victory with a machine called the 935K3 that they had made their own modifications to. The 935 of the Dick Barber team, which competed in the American IMSA race, competed against Kremer to the end, finishing second overall and first in its IMSA class, demonstrating the true strength of Porsche.
