How It Works
The Apex Pro Shark Rig is designed as a complete system for land-based shark fishing.
Your mainline connects to the heavy mono abrasion leader which protects against tail strikes and body abrasion during the fight.
Long leaders are commonly used in serious shark fishing to handle tail whips and body contact when large sharks roll during the fight.
A sliding weight system allows the shark to take the bait naturally without immediately feeling resistance.
Below the leader is a heavy 650lb coated wire bite trace connected to a large Eagle Claw 20/0 circle hook designed for large shark species.
The reinforced landing rope attachment points allow the fisho to safely control large sharks when they reach the surf zone.
The upper Flemish eye can also be used as a drone release attachment point, allowing the rig to be deployed cleanly when using drone bait drops.
The premium coated 7×7 stainless bite cable is chosen for strength, flexibility and low memory, helping the hook sit straight and present correctly.
Using a Landing Rope
A landing rope is simply a strong rope fitted with a carabiner clip used to safely control large sharks once they reach shallow water.
When the shark is fought to around 10 meters from shore, the first landing rope attachment point becomes visible above the water.
This is often when the shark puts the most pressure on your rod.
By clipping your landing rope to this first reinforced loop you can transfer the load from the rod to the rope, giving you a direct solid connection to the fish without relying on a bending rod.
This allows the shark to be safely controlled and guided through the surf.
Once the shark is beached, the rope can then be clipped to the second landing rope loop which shortens the connection and makes the shark easier to control while removing the hook.
This system improves safety for the fisho and reduces stress on the shark by shortening the fight near shore.
Hook Configuration
This rig uses a genuine Eagle Claw 20/0 circle hook.
The hook is supplied barbed. Fishos who prefer barbless setups can simply crush the barb with pliers before fishing.
Barbless hooks are commonly recommended for large sharks as they allow faster and safer hook removal and reduce injury when releasing the fish.
