Originally, these cards were distributed, sold and maintained through the eTopps website in a member portfolio, with the cards themselves stored securely in a warehouse. Members had the ability to receive the physical cards for a shipping and processing fee. Twenty-four years later, Topps elected to close out all the accounts with the options to accept a minimal payout, substantially below actual cost, or pay an exorbitant shipping fee to have the cards sent to the portfolio owners. Topps won't disclose who took what option (I only printed half of my portfolio), so the actual print run is likely lower than the print run made available at the time. For the Bryant card, the print run was 5000.
For perspective, if made available to Lakers fans at one sold out game at Crypto.com Arena in Los Anceles, fewer than 1 in 4 fans could get the card. 75% of the fans would go home with nothing! Nobody else could get the card at any other game....at any other tine....ever!
