Constructed of stiffened leather backing with canvas straps and metal rivets. The tapered shape indicates it was designed to support the lower leg and ankle.


The piece retains its original handwritten museum or teaching collection tag referencing a pediatric splint.


These devices were commonly used in the late 19th and early 20th century to treat conditions such as clubfoot, fractures, or other orthopedic deformities in children.

This artifact comes from the liquidation of a large historical medical teaching collection assembled by physician Dr. Max Goltman of Memphis, Tennessee. The collection included surgical instruments, embalming tools, anatomical charts, and rare medical teaching specimens.
