Bold porcelain vase trio designed by Hans Theo Baumann for Rosenthal in 1964, featuring striking black geometric micro-patterns on glossy yellow porcelain. The architectural tapering forms and precise graphic decoration reflect Baumann’s modernist design language and Rosenthal’s commitment to experimental design during the 1960s.

Artist & Manufacturer

Hans Theo Baumann (1924–2016) was one of the most influential German designers of the post-war period. Trained as an architect and later professor at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe, Baumann developed a multidisciplinary career spanning architecture, industrial design, ceramics, and lighting. His work was produced by major manufacturers including Rosenthal, Braun and WMF, and today forms part of important museum collections such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Vitra Design Museum.

Rosenthal, founded in 1879 in Selb, Bavaria, became internationally recognized for merging traditional porcelain craftsmanship with avant-garde design collaborations. During the 1950s and 1960s the company worked with leading architects and designers, establishing Rosenthal porcelain as a modern design object rather than purely decorative tableware.
