Folio of Shakespeare Engravings; Drawings by Henry William Bunbury, 500 Ltd Ed.

This is a rare copy of ‘A Folio of Shakespeare Engravings Taken from the Drawings by Henry William Bunbury and Presented to H. R. H. the Duchess of York; with a Foreword by Sir William Napier Bunbury, Bart. Edited by John Bailey.’ published by the Ariel Press Ltd, London in 1978. The edition was limited to 500 copies, this one is not numbered. Printed and bound by K. G. Lohse, Frankfurt am Main.

The folio retains its original binding of brown cloth with gilt spine, gilt lettering and blind stamped borders to upper cover. The folio has decorative endpapers. The foreword was written by by Sir William Napier Bunbury. It has illustrations in colour with engravings from the drawings of Henry William Bunbury. The plates were originally published between 1792 and 1795 by Thomas Macklin.  Plates by Ignatius Joseph Vandenbergh, William Satchwell Leney, John Chapman, Francesco Bartolozzi, Shenner, J. Coles, Robert Mitchell Meadows, Thomas Cheesman, William Nelson Gardiner, Peltro William Tomkins, Michele Benediti, Benjamin Duterow, and Thomas Macklin; after the author. The guard sheets have descriptive letterpress. The 20 coloured plates and all in good order.

The book is in very good condition in very good condition covers, which are rubbed to head and tail of spine and corners, it measures approx. 56cm by 49cm and weighs 4215g.

This is a rare collectable book, wonderful for a Shakespeare enthusiast.
