This listing is for 1 mon bronze Kan'ei Tsūhō (寛永通寳) coin, minted by the Tokugawa Shogunate [1603–1868]. 

Size: 24 mm // 2.88 g 

Obverse:

     寛                kan
寳      通     hō          tsū
     永                 ei

Originally the reverse of the coin had no markings. After 1688, some coins feature the character 文 (bun), a reference to the Kanbun era (1661–1673).


"Tsūhō" (通寳) lit. means "circulating treasure" while "Kan'ei" (寛永) is a reference to the era in which this coin was originally designed and minted. The Kan'ei era lasted from 1624 through to 1644.
