Product Description: This is a Beaver Corporation 1/72 scale plastic model kit of the Japanese Navy Super Yamato-class battleship 51cm No. 1 Main Turret. The Super Yamato-class battleships were the No. 798 and No. 799 ships planned under the Fifth Replenishment Plan conceived in the late 1930s. Rather than being completely new designs these ships were considered to be an enhanced and improved version of the Yamato-class battleships. The original plan for the Super Yamato-class battleships was to equip them with three triple 51cm turrets. However due to the difficulties of designing and manufacturing triple 51cm turrets and the resulting weight savings twin turrets were adopted. The main guns were developed under the name "Shisei Ko-ho" (Prototype Type 1 Gun) and by 1942 the main components including the two barrels were reportedly nearing assembly. However with the proven importance of aircraft warfare in World War II and the end of the big-ship big-gun philosophy and the worsening war situation the construction plan for the Super Yamato-class battleships was canceled and the ship was never completed. Some sources state that the completed gun barrel was seized by the US military after the war.
