Product Information: Gas-Charged Lift Support (Gas Strut)
What is a Gas-Charged Lift Support?
A gas-charged lift support is a self-contained, precision-engineered damping device that uses compressed nitrogen gas and hydraulic fluid as its working medium. It provides smooth, controlled, and reliable lifting force for a wide variety of applications.
How It Works & Construction:
The unit is comprised of a sealed pressure tube, a precision piston, a piston rod, and several connecting parts. The key to its operation is a pressure differential created across the piston:
-
The internal pressure is equal throughout the chamber.
-
However, the cross-sectional area is different on each side of the piston because the piston rod occupies space on one end.
-
This difference in area, under constant gas pressure, generates a net force pushing toward the side with the smaller area (the piston rod side).
-
This net force is the extension force or "elastic force" of the support rod.
-
The specific force output can be precisely calibrated by setting different nitrogen pressures or using piston rods of varying diameters.
Common Applications:
Gas struts are versatile components known for providing "hands-free" support and are widely used in:
-
Automotive: Supporting hoods (bonnets), trunk lids, tailgates, and liftgates for safe and easy access.
-
Industrial & Machinery: Used in printing machinery, food processing equipment, woodworking machinery, textile machines, and modern automated systems.
-
Furniture & Ergonomics: Integrated into office chairs, adjustable desks, and storage cabinets.
-
Other Equipment: Found in fitness machines, computer enclosures, aviation racks, and drawing apparatus.
This design ensures reliable, maintenance-free operation and consistent force over the lifespan of the unit.
Features:
- Premium gas-charged cylinders
- Quality & Fitment Tested - better than the original supports that came on your vehicle
- Safely controls the drop rate of rear tailgate.
- Offers leak free operation and long life.
- Slow down compress function.
Critical Safety Instructions for Gas Strut Installation & Use
For your safety and to ensure optimal performance, please read and follow these instructions carefully.
-
Correct Installation Orientation:
-
High-Pressure Component Warning:
-
This is a sealed, high-pressure gas cylinder. It is STRICTLY PROHIBITED to puncture, incinerate, strike, or tamper with it in any way.
-
NEVER use the gas strut as a handrail or support, as this may lead to sudden failure and injury.
-
Operating Temperature Range:
-
The designed operating environment temperature is -35°C to +70°C (-31°F to 158°F).
-
(Note: Specific manufacturing processes may allow for a momentary tolerance up to 80°C / 176°F, but continuous operation should remain within the standard range.)
-
Force Direction Limitation:
-
Proper Mounting Alignment:
Disclaimer: Professional installation is recommended. Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in product failure, property damage, or personal injury.
Attention:
Please check the descriptions and compatibility chart to ensure that the replacement fits your auto before your purchasing.
The lift supports with strong force can't be pressed by hand. Please use appropriate shop manual for your vehicle to obtain specific service instruction. If you do not have an installation manual or not enough skill to install this part, it is recommended to seek the help from a qualified machanic.
