This is a traditional "Molinillo" Mexican hot chocolate frothing whisk. Because of its hand carved nature, it has some expected surface imperfections and rough patches (see photos); it's otherwise fine. Measures 12" long.
The whisk is made from a single shaft of carved wood with artistic wood-burning techniques used to darken portions of the design. This clever tool makes use of its notched profile and the mobile ring near the center of the whisk to work up a froth when the handle is rolled back and forth between your hands. Typically, the molinillo is used when mixing up a spicy Mexican hot chocolate, but it can be used in a variety of other recipes as well.
It's perfectly serviceable for kitchen use, but it also looks quite nice as a decoration, and it has a small pinhole at the top of the handle should you wish to thread a hang loop through it for display.
