Botanical name: Juglans ssp., regia
Country of origin: North America
This is walnut burl or Half-grain or walnut head veneer with a reinforced veneer on the back. In order to obtain this type of wood for making veneer, the trunks must not be sawn off above ground, but must be dug up. The veneers produced result in a particularly striking, expressive pattern, which comes to life through many swirls and color combinations. Please note that this is a natural product and that small cracks/hairline cracks or open areas/ingrowths or slight waves can occur with grain and root wood of this type and can be processed as such! These are not defects, but are part of the characteristics of these roots. Please consider this before purchasing!
This flat veneer sheet was already assembled from many individual small continuous burl wood sheets (mirrored with cross joints). Small deviations in the individual veneer sheets may be possible; certain prominent open ingrowths have been repaired. These very thin veneers are only rough cut and are intended for the experienced craftsman/professional. They serve as starting material for many different small artistic projects such as jewelry, small parts, furniture, cell phone shells, instruments, or various DIY projects. The back of the veneers is laminated with a second veneer sheet (last example photo). The second veneer on the back remains on the veneer and is placed on the underside during processing and is also processed. Please note that, especially with these prefabricated and already joined veneers, the structures/grains and the arrangement of the individual sheets can sometimes differ slightly, and a small open area/fine hairline crack/gap can sometimes occur. But thanks to the paper on the back, the veneer is prepared for professional processing! These thin veneers should no longer be sanded with normal sandpaper (80-100 grit), but only very lightly and carefully with e.g. lacquer sandpaper (200-400 grit), some experience is an advantage! Note/Tip: If there are slightly larger ingrowths, a gap or hairline cracks, you can use a color-matching touch-up pen to touch up before painting. All leaves are photographed individually and distinctive features already mentioned are shown and can be seen. With very, very similar continuous leaves, structures/grains in the wood can change slightly! Some of the photos are a bit overexposed - that's why they look a bit too light/light brown in some photos,
The wood veneer is used as pure raw material as described above, the back is laminated and reinforced with veneer! and only delivered in a rough rough cut!
