Welcome to my auction - Up for your consideration is this early piece of test equipment from the estate of a retired NASA engineer. To the best of my knowledge this a rake instrument used in aerospace applications to measure pressures, static pressures, flow angles and temperatures. It profiles flow fields in engine inlets or
around airfoils, providing high-resolution data for analyzing flow
quality, Mach number, and in some cases, drag.
NASA has been conducting wind tunnel testing as early as the 1930's. I have no idea the age of this piece but feel it dates between the 1970's and '90's.
The instrument is stored in it's custom built box which is marked on top in black sharpie "Survey Rake Offset Diffuser Model". Inside are custom compartments, each marked as follows;
- M 20-0909 5 Vortex Gen. Plate Assm. - missing
- Mod 20-0909-3 Jet Inlet Plate Assm. - missing
- Mod 20-0911-3 Rake Assm. - present
The instrument appears to have been stored for some time and difficult to remove due to rusting. The estate did try to clean up a little to make it easier to get in and out, still difficult. Engineering tool marks are visible, it has an irregular cut edge and hand scribed direction positions which is shown in 5th photo. These along with the custom box indicate this is some type of test or prototype model. It does appear to have been used, the top edge of the assemble looks burnt with lifting of pitot tubes (see photo), the tubes are number tagged.
SPECIAL NOTE - Thank you for supporting small business! Please take time to check out my Store Wide Sale going on now!CONDITION - The instrument is in nice, vintage, pre-owned condition! Original estate found patina showing some normal age/use wear, box is sturdy, instrument appears to be intact, 2 pieces missing. Please see photos as part of description and condition.
SIZE - Instrument measures approximately 20" long, center mount/clamp is 2 3/4" by 1 3/8" by 1 1/8".
