A handsome reprint edition in slipcase of Thomas Mann's famed novella. Rendered into English from the German by Kenneth Burke, with an introduction by Erich Heller. With woodcut illustrations by Felix Hoffmann. Sandglass leaflet laid in (Avon, no. III: 37).
Elegantly printed on laid papers, and bound using the Japanese fold technique (sometimes called the French fold, in which the fore-edges of the pages are not severed by the knife from adjoining leaves and all printing is on the outsides of these uncut leaves). Covers in green, yellow and gold marbled papers, backed in olive leatherette and titling gilt-stamped on green spine block. Volume housed in olive paper-covered slipcase.
An about-Fine copy: bright, tightly-bound and unmarked. Slipcase with light scratching and minor sunning; is otherwise structurally sound.

RETURNS:
All items are sold on a satisfaction guaranteed basis. I guarantee the condition of every item as described. If you are dissatisfied with your purchase because it is not as described, I will refund the price of the item plus shipping costs both ways. If you've changed your mind about an item, or you just want to return it, I will ask that you pay for the shipping and I'll cheerfully refund the price of the book. In either case, items must be returned within 30 days of the date of receipt.

I rate books and dust jackets on a scale from AS NEW to POOR, as follows:
AS NEW - Used when the book or dust jacket is in the same immaculate condition as when it was published, with no defects.
FINE - Approaches the condition of AS NEW, but lacking the crispness of a new book. These books or dust jackets should have no defects.
NEAR FINE - Approaching FINE but with slight flaws.
VERY GOOD - Describes a book or dust jacket that does show some small signs of wear or slight damage.
GOOD - Describes the average used worn book or jacket that has flaws and/or damages. (An old bookseller said it best, "In rare books, Good ain't good".)
FAIR - Worn book or jacket that is stained, has loose pages, tears, or otherwise has some sort of significant damage or other issue.
POOR - Describes a book that is worn, damaged, stained or otherwise beat-up, making it useful as a reading copy but possibly not a collector copy. A POOR dust jacket is likely heavily torn, chipped or otherwise damaged.
(A ' + ' or a ' - ' can indicate a shading of these values...either a nudge up, or a nudge down.)
