In May 1983, she was the senior flight attendant on Eastern Flight 855, which in flight, lost power in all three engines necessitating preparation for a water landing. However, one engine restarted at the last moment, and the plane safely returned to Miami. She testified before the National Transportation Safety Board during their investigation; and, as interest in the incident continued over the years, she was frequently interviewed by international news organizations
