The Pokémon Japanese Old Maid cards were released in 2019 as part of a traditional Japanese playing card game set based on the classic game Baba Nuki (Old Maid). In this special Pokémon edition, standard playing cards were replaced with exclusive Pokémon artwork, featuring characters and designs not found in the regular Pokémon Trading Card Game.
These cards were produced primarily for casual gameplay and family entertainment, not for long-term collecting. As a result, most copies were shuffled, handled, and stored without protective sleeves, making high-grade examples extremely difficult to find today.
The Old Maid Pokémon cards were sold only in Japan and were never released internationally, adding to their scarcity and appeal among global collectors. Because of their novelty format, limited distribution, and gameplay-focused use, very few examples survive in near-perfect condition.
