VINTAGE APPLIQUE QUILT TEMPLATE
Interesting and unusual vintage primitive folk art applique quilt template measuring about 5-1/4" tall by 4-1/3" wide. Featuring an unusual ship anchor, it is made of some type of stiffened material - I am just not sure what it is called - it is thin like cardboard, sturdy and slightly pliable with a smooth finish - reminds me of early linoleum, but is not thick like that product - difficult to bend and probably cut with a knife to form the design. Intended for use when making appliques or similar quilt decoration. I purchased a large collection of these templates from an Amish farm out in the country by Ashland, Ohio back in the 1960s - guessing template dates to the 1930-1940s.
Condition is very nice with no bends, tears, or damage other than minor usage marks - it is simply charming and so unusual - I always planned on piercing the top and using as a ornie on my large antique Christmas feather tree, but couldn't bring myself to punch a hole thru the design. Wonderful addition to any sewing collection or display!
