This 1954 Bank of
Canada Queen Elizabeth II 1000 Dollars PMG graded 65 EPQ Gem Uncirculated
Banknote is a great addition to any serious paper money collector. The 1954
Canadian $1,000 bill is famous for two main varieties: the "Devil's
Face" and the "Modified Portrait." The initial 1954 “Landscape Series”
featured an engraving of Queen Elizabeth II where her hair appeared to resemble
a grinning devil. The $1,000 note was printed by Canadian Bank Note Company
Ltd. The front of the note has a black and white frame on rose underprint, decorated
with abstract forms in which the values "1000" and "ONE THOUSAND
/ MILLE" are presented. On the right is a portrait of Elizabeth II, the
new Queen of England and the Commonwealth. Each banknote has a red seven-digit
serial number with a 2- or 3-letter prefix. The note is signed by Ruston William
Lawson, Deputy Governor, and Gerald Keith Bouey, Governor. On the reverse you
have the covered bridge in the village of L’Anse-Saint-Jean, Quebec, and, in
the background, the Saguenay River fjord. This is a great addition to any
collection of paper money from Canada and around the world. Whether you are a
seasoned collector or just starting out, this banknote is sure to impress.
