The scene depicts a car with Uncle Sam and 2 other figures driving off a "fiscal cliff". The cartoon satirizes political gridlock regarding US economic policy around 2012.

The text in the bubble reads, “I'M NOT DRIVING. YOU DRIVE. I'M NOT DRIVING. YOU DRIVE...". This editorial cartoon depicts Uncle Sam, the Democratic (donkey) and Republican (elephant) parties flying over a “fiscal cliff” in a car while arguing over who is driving. This parody mimics the final scene of the 1991 film Thelma & Louise.

This framed artwork is signed by the artist, Michael Ramirez and dated 2014. It includes the handwritten inscription, “With Best Wishes Always! RAMIREZ 2014.”

ARTIST BIO:

Michael Patrick Ramirez (born 1961) is a renowned American conservative editorial cartoonist, author, and senior editor at Investor's Business Daily. A two-time Pulitzer Prize winner (1994, 2008), he is known for his sharp, detailed, and influential political commentary. His work is syndicated worldwide through Creators Syndicate and has featured in USA Today and the Los Angeles Times.

In addition to two Pulitzers, he won the 2015 Reuben Award for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year, the Mencken Award (1996), and is a three-time winner of the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi Award.

Formerly with The Commercial Appeal and Los Angeles Times, he joined Investor's Business Daily and later the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
