Rare Antique Jaxonite and Silver Plated Trinket Pot, c1910.

Jaxonite is a type of phenolic resin (an early synthetic plastic) commonly used in the production of molded items during the early the late Victorian and the Art Deco periods, particularly the 1920s and 1930s. It is often described as a form of brown mottled or colored Bakelite. It is one of many forgotten early plastic trade names from that era, similar to others like Sicalite, Stanite, and Nestorite.

This is a really stylish little pot, it is cylindrical in shape with a gently domed lid. The base is made from Jaxonite in mottled brown tones to mimic tortoiseshell. The base has JAXONITE moulded into the base.

The lid has been made using a silver plated metal and is marked EPNS on the inside in the form of faux hallmarks.

The pot is in excellent antique condition. It measures approx. 4cm in diameter by 2.3cm.

This a rare example of an early plastic, a great addition to any collection.
