Steeplechase Jockey & Dragon / Sea Serpent
Circa 1907–1912
Offered is a matched pair of deeply embossed Golden Age postcards dating to the Edwardian period.
Both examples feature strong sculptural relief and soft airbrushed tinting characteristic of early 20th-century American and German-influenced novelty production.
Card One: Steeplechase / horse racing scene depicting a jockey clearing a jump in dramatic forward motion. Finely modeled relief with subtle tonal shading.
Card Two: Fantasy dragon or sea serpent rising from stylized waters. Deep relief embossing with atmospheric tinting. Divided back with early U.S. postal wording (circa 1907–1912).
Both cards are:
• Divided backs (post-March 1, 1907 regulation)
• Unposted
• Heavy embossed stock
• Golden Age production
Condition consistent with age, including light toning and minor edge handling. The Dragon PC has two small dark spots on it. Please review images for exact detail.
A desirable pairing representing two classic Golden Age themes: Sporting & Mythical.
I entrusted my mother and father's (Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz) memorabilia to Connectibles, and during the entire evaluation and auction process, never for a moment did I feel anything less than completely confident, protected and guided by experienced and compassionate professionals who love what they do. We got wonderful results and the best part... it was great fun!"
