Discover a piece of Australian history with this 1857/55 Half Sovereign, a rare collector's item which  reflects the rich heritage of the 1800s. Struck a business strike type and composed of 0.917 fine gold, this pre-decimal coin is a testament to Australia's numismatic past. The unique Type EA wide Low 7 is rated GVF/AU50 and was confirmed some 4 years ago by Jim Noble (2022) when shown the coin.

Dr David Briggs (DB) in his 2019 Half Sovereign Edition, states 200 were manually dated 1855 and subsequently re-dated whereupon 3 varieties of the overdates arose - EA, EB and EC underscoring  its exceptional uniqueness. The EA is the wide, low 7 overdate.

26 1857/55 overdates were witnessed by DB (all types) over 39 years since first discovered. Given the extended period, one would be certain his numbers are overstated due to churning - the highest of the 26 sightings were 1AU55 and 1AU58 - this EA variety on offer, at its rated grade, ranks third highest, hence its extreme scarcity.
