RARE Roseville Crocus Vase Glossy Brown Yellow Green Antique 1904 6.5 in. AS IS READ

The base of this vase has a repair of some sort measuring approximately 5/8 inches. It could be professionally done, as the glaze is a near match to the original. It is also possible that this was done on site during production, but of course I cannot say.

Also of interest is that I cannot find another example of this shape in the Crocus line. Given that Crocus was only produced for a year or so, that's not completely unusual, but curious. Also curious is that some other pottery pieces by Frederick Rhead have an initial signature in the very spot where this piece has a repair.

The Crocus line by Roseville was only made in 1904 - 1905, and was designed by English potter, designer and decorator Frederick Hurten Rhead. Rhead developed the "squeeze bag" method of applying glaze in a rich and thick manner, which was used on the Crocus line.

The line is known for not having signatures, but instead a solid yellow bottom

Has crazing consistent with age

High gloss brown base with yellow and green glazed flowers

Measures approximately 6.5 inches tall x 4.5 inches at widest section
