Yangmei, also known as Chinese Bayberry, is the common name for the fruit of the Myrica rubra tree, which is also referred to by various other names including Yamamomo (in Japanese), Red Bayberry, Waxberry, Yumberry (especially in commercial contexts), and Chinese strawberry.

Fresh yangmei is one of the world's best fruits! For those who have never tasted Yangmei before, it’s like pomegranate raspberry strawberry taste with a fantastic texture and juiciness. California grown fresh yangmei has been selling for $45-$60 per pound in Bay Area in the past 5-6 years.

The yangmei plant for sale in this listing is called “Black Carbon” (黑炭楊梅), which is one of the best cultivars in China. The fruit is sweet, brix 13-15, low-acidity to zero-acidity when fruit is fully ripen on tree. While most Yangmei trees are dioecious (requiring separate male and female plants for pollination), certain varieties are known to be hermaphroditic or self-fertile, meaning they can produce both male and female flowers on the same tree, allowing for self-pollination and fruit production even with a single plant. Black Carbon yangmei tree is self-fertile, which means you only need one plant to set fruit.

Yangmei trees are cold hardy. They can grow in zone 7 with some protection in winter. They thrive in USDA zone 8-10.

This is a great opportunity to grow your own Yangmei tree in your yard and pick fresh yangmei at your fingertips! Honestly speaking, commercially grown yangmei is very expensive yet the taste is not as good as homegrown fresh yangmei. I’ll provide buyers with very detailed growing instructions.
