This authentic Songye mask originates from the Democratic Republic of Congo and reflects the bold geometric carving traditions associated with Songye ceremonial art. Hand carved from wood, the mask features a circular form with deeply incised linear motifs and symmetrical facial elements characteristic of Central African ritual aesthetics.

The stylized eyes and balanced composition emphasize symbolic presence rather than realism, a defining feature of Songye carving traditions. Remaining pigment traces in earthy tones, yellow, red, and blue accents highlight the original decorative surface and contribute to the visual depth of the piece.

Visible aging, including surface wear and pigment attenuation, developed naturally over time and enhances the historical character of the object.

Returns
