This is a Kyoto natural whetstone from the Nishiyama Ohira mine.

“Nashiji Namazu” refers to a highly regarded finishing stone type seen in famous Kyoto mines such as Nakayama and Ohira. The name comes from its pear-skin textured surface (“Nashiji”) and the flowing “Namazu” pattern visible within the stone.

These stones are prized for their refined sharpening feedback and their ability to produce a smooth yet extremely keen edge.

This particular stone is a softer type, making it very easy to use while still functioning as a super finishing stone suitable for a wide range of blades.

Size: approx. 205 × 75 × thickness 20–25 mm
Thin 40-gata type.

There is a small chip on the left corner.
Due to the thin profile on the back side, attaching the stone to a wooden base at the flat center area is recommended for stability.
