Late 80s Jamaica High School “Shirt Kings” custom sweatshirt. Featuring “Jamaica Cheerleaders” + the beaver mascot screen printed on the front. And the nickname “Vanilla” airbrushed on the back.
I have been utterly fascinated with this piece so let me tell you a little bit of the history if you are interested. Jamaica High School was a school in Queens NYC. It closed down in 2014 but this crewneck captures its peak era. Shirt Kings, the pioneers of hip-hop streetwear, were founded in 1986 and operated out of the Coliseum Mall just down the road. So this crewneck was custom made for a cheerleader nicknamed “Vanilla” by these legendary artists, making her probably the coolest kid in school!
Such a cool piece of history, I just wish I knew more about who “Vanilla” was.
