This is an old Japanese clay doll (Tsuchi-ningyo) depicting Ebisu, one of the Seven Lucky Gods. He is shown in an auspicious pose, wearing an Eboshi hat and holding a large Tai (sea bream).
It features a handmade, hollow structure with a hole at the bottom. The rustic modeling gives it a charming and friendly appearance. Based on its style and craftsmanship, it is estimated to be from the late Meiji to early Showa era (approx. 1900-1940). It possesses a unique atmosphere and presence characteristic of that era, distinct from mass-produced items.
To preserve the vintage patina, no professional cleaning has been performed.
