This listing is for Windows PC Gamer Magazine Coverdisc CD Demo Computer Game Software (You Pick Lot).

CD-Rom Software CD's from PC Gamer Magazine. CD ONLY as shown in photos. PC Gamer was a magazine distributed in USA with cover discs. PC Gamer is a magazine and website founded in the United Kingdom in 1993 devoted to PC gaming and published monthly by Future plc. The magazine has several regional editions, with the UK and US editions becoming the best selling PC games magazines in their respective countries. The magazine features news on developments in the video game industry, previews of new games, and reviews of the latest popular PC games, along with other features relating to hardware, mods, "classic" games and various other topics. PC Gamer and parent Future began digital PC Gaming Show at E3 2015. The American edition of PC Gamer launched in 1994. In 1999, Future US, then known as Imagine Media, purchased the rival magazine PC Games and merged its staff into the magazine.

Demo disk - Similarly to the British edition, the magazine shipped with a demo disk, though diskless versions were available. The CDs were replaced by DVDs in the American edition on a month-to-month basis. When PC games with full motion video (FMV) sequences were popular in the mid-to-late 1990s, PC Gamer's CD-ROM included elaborate FMV sequences featuring one of their editors. To access the features of the CD, including the demos, patches and reviews, the user had to navigate a 'basement', which played very much like classic PC games such as Myst. It was in this game sequence that the magazine's mascot, Coconut Monkey, was introduced just as the editor was leaving the magazine, marking the transition from the FMV demo CDs to the more contemporary menu driven demo CDs that were subsequently used. The cover disc of the July 1998 issue of the Slovenian, Swedish, and UK editions of PC Gamer were infected with the Marburg virus, which CNN Money stated caused the malware to become a "widespread threat". In the September 2011 edition of PC Gamer, it was announced that they would be dropping the demo disk altogether and concentrating on improving the quality of the magazine instead with a promise of a larger magazine printed on a heavier paper stock. The usual demo disk content would be made available online.

Notes:

First, remember, these are magazine demo discs (game demos, mods, maps, patches, etc). They came with the print magazine, PC Gamer (US). Magazines have a long lead time and are, as an industry convention, labeled with the month AFTER the month they actually are sold, so the March issue of each year, for example, has the Game of the Year awards for the previous year. This would have been on newsstands in February and probably was written in December or January. Discs always contain more content than just the things listed on the slipcover. The PCG disc numbering system was based on interface version — so 1.1 is the first disc of their first interface, while 4.10 is the 10th disc of the sixth interface version. The PCG disc was discontinued after the September 2011 issue. It was, I believe, the last American game magazine to still come with a demo disc at that point. PCG still exists, as the only surviving regular print magazine in the US about electronic games. Well, Game Informer is kind of still around, but PCG is the only one with a regular publisher and not self-published.

COMPATIBILITY: Computers are like people, each one is different. Unlike console games, a computer game may install and work flawlessly on one system but may need adjustments on another. This is due to a variety of factors, mainly the OS platform running, video card you have, drivers, protection software installed, etc. Many times manufacturers release updates to games to fix bugs and add enhancements. We would be happy to help get the game going on your computer, but ultimately compatibility issues are the responsibility of the buyer. We suggest going to Google and searching for the name of the game along with the words "system requirements" to determine if your system is suitable. Ultimately, we are not responsible for software compatibility problems or publisher's errors.  Many "older" games can be run on newer computers/operating systems via emulators or mode selection (see the internet on how to do this).
