Antique bronze Buddha statue with integrated base for an incense burner. Thailand or Laos. Late 18th to early 19th c.
A beautifully cast and hand-finished bronze Buddha figure in Bhumisparsha Mudra, earth-touching gesture, seated with serene expression on top of a flared openwork ventilated base designed to hold incense or lamp flame. This piece was created for devotional use, combining spiritual significance with practical ritual function.
Based on style, proportions, and casting technique, it was cast in either Northern Thailand (Lanna / Ayutthaya influence) or nearby Laos (Lan Xang tradition) at the end of the 18th to early 19th century.
Condition: This bronze displays a rich aged patina, with natural oxidation and wear consistent with age and ritual use. No modern restoration. Base shows signs of historical chamber use which is consistent with practical ritual employ.
A rare example of spiritual art that also serves as a small incense burner or lamp. Please look carefully at the photographs as they form part of the description.
