Such a beauty to be 135yrs old. Yes thats 135 years old my friend. It might be a little more tarnished than in this pic. This is a stunning, authentic Imperial Russian Orthodox icon of the Mother of God of Kazan, dated 1889. The piece features a beautifully detailed silver oklad (riza) stamped with the "84" zolotnik hallmark, indicating .875 silver purity. The silver work is expertly chased and embossed, framing the hand-painted faces of the Virgin Mary and the Christ Child.
The icon is mounted on its original wooden panel with a period-correct mustard-colored velvet backing and top hanging loop. Considering its age of over 135 years, it is in remarkable condition with a natural patina on the silver and minor wear to the velvet, adding to its historic character. A premier piece for collectors of religious antiquities or Russian Imperial silver.
