4 1/4 inch tall (to top of stopper) cylinder-shape TRANSLUCENT PURPLE COLORED antique COLGATE & CO perfume bottle.  Bottle is EMBOSSED, comes with PAPER LABEL and has a GLASS STOPPERThis is an ORIGINAL ANTIQUE hand Blown Into Mold bottle (BIM) with a tooled top, dating it all the way back to the 1800's.

This is the same Colgate of the Colgate / Palmolive company today, but the 1800's version, back when they specialized in perfume.  This bottle is attractive with the CAPRICE paper label and glass stopper.  Then there is the deep purple color? You hear about old glass turning purple in the sunlight ... The beautiful purple amethyst color of this bottle is the result of being made with manganese in the glass, a mineral that was pulverized and added to vats of liquid glass that acted as a decolorizing agent to turn the natural aqua-tinted glass into a pure crystal clear colorless glass.  Exposure to ultraviolet rays of the sun or other sources of UV rays, triggers a chemical reaction and the manganese oxidizes and turns a wonderful amethyst color.   With few exceptions, only clear glass from before 1914 will turn sun-colored-amethyst. Not only does this deep purple/amethyst color make it a great looking bottle, but it also authenticates it as being truly antiquecheck it out!
