This is a hand-carved wood statue of the Laughing Buddha, also known as Hotei or Budai....A beloved figure in East Asian Buddhism, representing contentment, happiness and abundance....He stands 12" tall...some age-related wear including some finish loss on belly and foot...I have not applied any kind of wood polish and leave it as found....I believe this Buddha was made from a Chinese hardwood such as camphor or boxwood...Artisan signed...Vintage....
