Hagi grass (萩) has a long legacy in Japanese cultural traditions as a kind of autumn grass. The hagi is mentioned over a hundred times in the ancient Japanese Man'yoshu anthology of poems.

Emperor-sized charcoal burnished togidashi maki-e fountain pen. A visually striking pen embellished with autumn leaves in gold and green. 

An exquisitely wrought raden butterfly is perched at the bottom of the barrel, surrounded by ferns and leaves of Autumn. 


This model, both for its technical characteristics and its thematic elements, can rightfully be considered a modern classic (almost neo vintage). I would like to point out that the example here offered for sale was intended for the Japanese domestic market. The clip is marked Pilot, and the #50 Pilot nib is an early (1994) single-tone 14-carat gold nib. The fact that the pen has been preserved in perfect, unused condition, complete with its original boxes and papers, makes it even more appealing to the seasoned collector.
