An authentic hand-carved Nepalese ritual mask depicting Hanuman, the Hindu monkey deity, originating from the Kathmandu Valley. This is a genuine Newar example made for ceremonial and festival use, not a modern decorative or tourist piece. It dates to the first half of the 20th c.

Carved from solid hardwood and finished with traditional mineral pigments and natural resin / lacquer, the mask displays all the powerful iconography associated with this much loved Hindu deity. Large apotropaic eyes, pronounced simian muzzle and a vertical Vaishnavite tilaka on the forehead. The interior is deeply hollowed with clear hand-tool marks, and the mask retains original cloth ties used for wearing during ritual processions.

The surface shows honest age-related wear, pigment loss, and old chips consistent with long ceremonial use. There is no modern repainting or artificial distressing. Overall condition is stable and exactly as expected for an antique ritual object of this type.
