Beautifully carved from wood, this Ancestor Figure from the Lower Sepik River in Papua New Guinea is a stunning piece of Pacific Islands & Oceania art. Part of a private Sydney collection, this figurine represents the rich cultural history of the region. The figure is well carved with detailed engraving around the eyes, and dominated by a large well-engraved head with a long probiscus (nose). It is no doubt a female bird ancestor.
