African Tribal Face Mask Coast Baule people Ceremonial mask pigmentation-35.4/15.5 CM

The Baule are one of the Akan peoples. They moved west to the Ivory Coast more than 200 years ago and adpted masking traditions from their neighbors, the Guro, Senufo and Yaure peoples. There are three basic types used in a special dance of rejoicing called Goli, symbolizing the social order. This mask is either a Kpan, (with elaborate coiffures and refined carving; they represent the Senior female in Goli ceremonies) or a Ndoma (an idealized portrait mask used at the close of ceremonies.)

This striking African tribal mask is a hand-carved wooden piece featuring an elongated abstract face and sculptural crest form. The surface shows a deep, naturally aged patina with smooth handling wear, emphasizing its traditional character and craftsmanship.

The facial structure is balanced and expressive, with carved eyes, a refined nose, and subtle scarification marks that enhance its visual depth. The crest element adds height and presence, making this a strong decorative and collectible object.

This piece works beautifully as wall art, a curated shelf display, or part of an ethnographic collection. It is offered as an authentic decorative artifact, valued for its form, craftsmanship, and visual impact rather than attributed ceremonial use.
