Lightly fictionalized portrait of Kerouac's youth and his short-lived older brother Gerard. Jack's older brother died of rheumatic fever at the age of nine. It was written in 1956, though not published until 1963. Illustrated by James Spanfeller. Old owner name and 1965 date on the FFEP, otherwise clean and tight internally. Some light corner wear and fading on the black cloth spine. Still a first edition from this famous author.
