Mrs Dundas-Portrait Engraving- John Cochran-after Henry Perronet Briggs

The sitter for this elegant portrait engraving is Sophia, Mrs. Dundas, Countess of Zetland. It was executed by Scottish painter and printmaker John Cochran (active 1821–1865) after a design by British historical and portrait painter Henry Perronet Briggs (1793–1844). It was published by Edward Churton (1812–1885), most likely in the 1830s.

Cochran was known for his portrait engravings in the stipple technique, and his works are held in many major collections, including the National Portrait Gallery. A proof of this print is also held in the British Museum.

This current impression is in good condition with slight discoloration due to its age.
