What would have been a top quality playing surface for a Horse Racing themed Board Gambling Game similar to ' The Grand Race Game ' or ' The Game of Race '.

It measures 66cm across and 50 cm down including the border and folds down to 33cm by 50cm, the playing surface is 2cm thick.

You can tell it is old and I would guess it dates from pre 1900.

It was basically a simple gambling type game where small metal horses ( or tokens or coins ) were moved around the board following a roll of the dice.

I would think this was a more upmarket version than normal as it is what I think would be leather or similar on a heavy ( around 2.75kg ) wooden base and edging etc.

Just the board is included with no other parts or pieces and there is no makers name or mark etc.

There is some ageing and damage as shown including a couple of areas where the surface has torn along the line of the back boards joining and also the gold that marked the spaces etc has faded.

I would think this is one of the oldest Horse Racing related games you would generally find and it would look great displayed with some of the Horse figures used for playing etc.
