Petrykivka ornament is an artistic calling card of Ukraine.
Since ancient times, Ukrainians have decorated houses, clothes, handicrafts and everyday objects with bright patterns. It was believed that they attract luck to the owner, protect him from misfortunes, natural disasters and evil forces, and improve health. Each detail of such images carried a hidden, symbolic meaning. For example, grapes were a wish for fertility, oak personified male energy, courage and bravery, poppy embodied family memory and the strength of the family, periwinkle - youth, development, growth.
Pysanka is one of the ancient forms of Ukrainian folk painting, in which our ancestors embodied their aspirations and faith. The egg has always been a mystery to man: inanimate, it
gave the beginning of a new life. Therefore, the pysanka is a symbol of the spring revival of nature, the birth of life, the continuation of the family, a symbol of the sun, warmth and eternity.
THE SYMBOLISM OF PYSANA IS RELATED NOT ONLY TO SIGNS, BUT ALSO TO COLOR:
red - love and joy;
green - the revival of life, the awakening of nature;
yellow - life and warmth;
blue - sky, water, air;
black and brown - earth;
white - purity and innocence.
