Description: A hand carved wood and polychrome painted American folk-art large whimsical bird that is peg mounted on a large turned wood base. This large bird, is a fictious bird with a yellow beak, green cover around its porcelain button eyes, and purple wings with white dots having green centers decoration. The bird's body is green in color and has a heart drawn on its back below the head and another heart below its neck. The bird is supported by a beg which is mounted in the center of a round turned wood base decorated with yellow hearts having red border. The piece is obviously the invention of the folk artist who was having fun doing it. The piece is signed on the underside of the base "T.K. MORGAN BERKS Co. 2003". This is a substantial piece weighing 15 ounces and is ~6 3/4" high. The piece is in great condition with no observable damage. A great piece of folk art to add to your collection. Date: The piece is dated 2003.
Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The bird itself is ~9 1/2" long, ~6 3/4" high, and is ~2 3/4" at its widest, with the base being ~4 1/2" in diameter. The piece weighs about 15 ounce.
Maker: T.K. Morgan.
Marks: Marked on the underside of the base "T.K. MORGAN BERKS Co. 2003".
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice piece of whimsical contemporary American folk art, which would make a worthy addition to your collection or as a decorative accent in your home.
Condition: The carving is in very good condition, with no breaks, cracks, chips, or repairs. The piece has no observable loss to the colors, but has a few minor scratches and some light dings to the surface. In addition, the peg mount is a bit loose and turns around within the body of the bird, but does not come out. Be that as it may, this is a great looking unusual piece of folk art, which would make a nice addition to your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
