4 Horse Brass Medallions & Leather Strap Horse Tack Dress Harness Amulets Mid-Century English

This set of 4 vintage solid brass equestrian medallions are from the 1940s - 1960s and include:

  • Draft Horse in Roundel / Trotting Passant Shire Horse
  • Hunting Dog / Greyhound Dog
  • Lincoln Imp (3 dimensional) - a grotesque on a wall inside Lincoln Cathedral, England, and it has become the symbol of the city of Lincoln.
  • Scottish Thistle Brass Harness Ornament - Scotland’s proud thistle emblem.

These are stamped or pressed horse brass medallions or badges whose origins date back centuries when prevailing superstitions believed these amulets would protect their draft horses or cart horses from accident or injury and carried deep meaning for working horse handlers.

Horse harness badges became very popular in England in the mid-19th century and on the martingale harnesses of heavy shire horses and have now become a collector's item. They make lovely wall hangings, and these brass ornaments often can be found decorating the walls in Bed and Breakfasts, Airbnb, Pubs, and Inns for a unique horse theme or equestrian tack designer décor.
