20+ copperplate and other engravings featuring fashionable or theatrical figures and portraits, from the last years of the 18th century, or the first couple of decades of the 19th century. Some of them are actually dated.
Description:
**Fashion
Five, 18th Century sepia and white small engravings and vignettes from Pocket Memorandums; a small hand-coloured fashion plate from The Ladies Pocket Magazine, circa 1828; a humorous coloured scrapbook item on blue backing paper, circa 1817; hand coloured small picture showing french court dress, circa 1800. Some of the theatrical and portrait prints could also have been classified as fashion prints too.
**Theatre
3 men's costume plates and 2 frontispieces from Bell's Theatre: 1776-7; Mrs Abington as 'Lappet' coloured: 1787; Mademoiselle LeClerc as 'Emma', french hand coloured operatic print; an unknown woman, possibly the actress, Mary Ann Davenport, with a large fan; 'Double Dealer' theatrical copperplate dated 1777.
**Portrait
A portrait of 'Catherine the Great' from 1789; hand-coloured 'Pride of the Vineyard'; Katie Smith, the Merry Milkmaid, copperplate dated 1813; from 'Town and Country', two 'tete-a-tete' heads: Mrs L-sle and Lord H-n, who were in some sort of liaison. Plus a copperplate of the mausoleum of Lord Dacre, published for the Lady's Magazine.
Measurement: sizes vary. The largest, (Louise LeClerc measures approx 10" x 6') A couple are vignettes, only a couple of inches square.
Condition : Very good condition for the age of the item.Please look carefully at the photos which form an important part of the description.Please note that the first photo shows a collage with details of the two items, and is for presentational purposes only. Items are now 200+ years old.
