TWO small copperplate engraving featuring fashionable ladies' bodices, headdresses and hairstyles. They come from one of the series of almanacs, diaries or pocket memorandums which was so popular with ladies in the Regency period. More recently, they were probably in a scrapbook.
A remarkable amount of detail has been squeezed into a very small space (each plate measures just 4.75 inches x 3.75 inches.) I love the lady with an oversized locket on her chest and the wan, rather mournful figure beneath the veil. The urn-balancing figure is rather a mystery too - the cluster of ladies around her looks as though it has been drawn from life.
Condition : Very good condition for being well over 225 years old. Please see above for more on the condition, and look carefully at the photos which form an important part of the description. The last photo shows a framed collage of the two items, and is for display purposes only.
I have been an extensive collector of old and unusual books, prints and other ephemera over many years. However, it is now time to downsize, so all the items I sell come from my own, private collection. I am a private seller on Ebay, just hoping to pass on my items to other collectors who will appreciate them. Please see my listings for more rare Georgian & Regency prints. Would international buyers please note that I do not list every item on international sites for reasons of economy. However, if you click on my listings you can see everything that is currently being offered.
Postage: I am very happy to combine postage, but please be aware that there may be additional postage costs if the value of items goes into another price bracket for insurance, especially if sending outside the UK.
Please look carefully at the photos, which form a part of the description and ask any questions before bidding, as refunds are not offered, (unless, of course, an item proves to be faulty or misdescribed). Many thanks for your interest!
