Subject: Freeware Offer Date: 21 October 1985
Enclosed is a floppy disk containing a set of software that I have developed for use by myself and the librarian of the local T.I. section of the Singer Micro Users Group. I call the package Toolkit" and it currently is at revision 2.1. I have decided to use your magazine to offer this group of programs to the general Texas Instruments 99/4A users via your freeware concept.
The package contains ii programs that run in Extended basic and provide the following functionality:
Files: COMPDFSO AND COMPDV163
These are two file comparison programs that will compare any D/F 80 (particularly assembler object files) and D/V 163 (partularly merge format" Basic or Xbasie files.
File: DUMP_DF$0
A utility that will dump out in Hex or Integer the contents of D/F 80 files.
Files: DUMP OBJ and DUMP OBJO
These programs will help you understand the contents of object files in either the uncompressed or compressed formats. They will
actually take the object code apart and show what the tags are, what the load addresses are and the contents of memory. In addition all of the loader information such as REFs,DEFs, and Entry Points are shown.
File: FILE LIST
This program will read the directory information blocks off a series of disks and produces listings in order by disk or alphabetically by file.
File: LABEL DISK
This program is set up to generate convenient labels that can be attached to disk envelopes.
File: PROOFREAD
This is a unique program that will print out Basic or X-Basic programs in user specified formats. It is used to generate a listing of the program in the same form as that which is printed
in a magazine for example. It requires a "merge" file to be able to generate the listing from.
Files: XFORMC2C,XFORMC2U, and XFORMU2C
These programs will transform object files between compressed and
uncompressed formats. The compressed files will be able to load faster and will occupy less disk space. Usage of the XFORM_C2U
will convert a compressed file that can only be loaded by the Editor Assembler to an uncompressed file that can be loaded by X-Basic. In addition, the uncompressed file can be edited by the Editor/Assemb.
I would like to use the following terms for my offer. If somebody wants this software they can either send me a disk, return mailing fee and $5.00 I will send them a copy of this disk. If they send me $10.00 I will provide the disk, mailer, and postage.
In addition, if they obtain the software through secondary distribution and send me $5.00 to register as a user I will make them aware as other products that I have written become available. An example is the listing attached to the disk which comes from a set of programs that builds and maintains a database of library files. When an expanded directory is wanted the listing is made by accessing the database for extra information about the file when the directory is generated.
I have enjoyed your magazine and have found many hints and ideas between the covers. Keep up the good work. If you have any questions regarding the software offered feel free to contact me at (607) 754-2700.
Respectfully submitted, Stephen J. Trencansky
