The Vine Press, founded by Victor Neuberg, issued 550 of the standard limited edition of this collection of his poetry, and 40 of the De Luxe large paper edition on handmade paper: this is number 28 of that 40. Neuberg was a poet, occultist, and friend (and sometime lover) of 'the Great Beast' Aleister Crowley. Crowley initiated Neuburg into his magical Order, the A∴A∴; in 1909 they travelled to Algiers together and performed occult rituals in the desert, including Crowley's first "Sex Magick" ritual. The Vine Press was known for publishing works on theosophy, folklore and the occult. The illustrated leaflet included here states: " The Vine Press, Famous for the Format of its Productions, is Willing to consider suitable Manuscripts, with a View to Publication." Neuberg also had a poetry column in the British newspaper the Sunday Referee, in which he awarded a prize to the then-unknown Dylan Thomas. On hearing of Neuberg's death in 1940, Dylan Thomas said: "Vicky encouraged me as no one else has done ... He possessed many kinds of genius"
