A superb porcelain bonbonniere, finely modelled as the god Neptune, after a Meissen original modelled by Kaendler. Beautifully detailed and very carefully painted. It is mounted with a gilt metal hinged cover. Made by the Samson et Cie factory in Paris, marked with the underglaze blue star mark to the neck. c.1870.
It measures 7.5cm (2 3/8") high and 6cm (2 3/8") by 5cm (2 1/2") wide.
In excellent condition, there is a just small glaze loss to one facet at the back of the crown that has been professionally re-gilded. No other damage, repair or restoration. Very minor handling wear, there is a just tiny bit of wear to the gilt on the crown in a couple of places, but the enamels are all excellent. The gilt cover has slight tarnishing to the outside.
