Offered for sale is an original hand-executed French botanical watercolor on antique laid paper. The composition depicts a formal floral bouquet tied with ribbon, rendered in a refined decorative style consistent with late 18th to early 19th century French ornamental and botanical art.
The artwork is hand colored, not a print or reproduction. Brushwork, pigment absorption, and paper characteristics are consistent with period materials and techniques.
Along the lower margin is an original handwritten French dedication, partially obscured by age and paper loss. The legible portion reads:
“Dédié … Jerricot le jour de la fête pour son très humble et dévoué serviteur …”
Translated:
“Dedicated to … Jerricot on the day of his feast, from his very humble and devoted servant.”
This type of inscription is historically consistent with presentation or gift artworks of the period, often created to commemorate name days or formal occasions.
The artwork shows honest antique condition, including foxing, water staining, folds, edge losses, and surface wear, all consistent with age. No modern restoration has been observed.
The piece was professionally framed in the mid-to-late 20th century, as indicated by a framer’s label from Southwest Art Center, Dallas, Texas. The framing is later than the artwork and does not indicate the date of creation.
